Why Organic?

Certified organic foods are held to a higher standard that other foods, and we believe that we should hold ourselves to these higher standards in order to provide the best product that we can to our customers.

What is Organic?

Organic foods are grown and produced in a more natural way than conventional foods and emphasize the use of renewable resources to protect the environment. They are grown without the use of harmful pesticides and fertilizers and are processed without artificial ingredients, preservatives, or irradiation to maintain the integrity of the food. They are grown in such a way that preserves soil fertility and is thus better for the environment. Organic meat, poultry and eggs come from animals that have not been treated with antibiotics or been given growth hormones. Therefore, the word "organic" refers to a specific way of farming that aims to provide a safer, healthier and more natural product.

How to Become Certified Organic

In order for a farm to market its products as organic, a USDA accredited certifier must inspect the farm to ensure it meets certain standards. These standards include avoiding synthetic inputs such as fertilizers, pesticides, and antibiotics, genetically modified organisms, irradiation, and the use of sewer sludge. It is also necessary to use farmland that has been free from chemicals for three years, to keep detailed written production and sales records, maintain physical separation between certified and non certified products, and of course periodic inspections must be performed. Our inspections are performed by the Midwest Organic Services Association (MOSA).

Is Organic Better?

Because organic foods are grown or raised under stricter specifications, they have many benefits that conventional foods lack. First of all, no harmful pesticides or fertilizers are used in the farming. This means there are no toxic chemicals released into the environment that may harm soil, water or local wildlife. In addition to being better for the environment, it has been suggested that organic foods are tastier, more nutritious, and better for your health. Pesticides used on conventionally grown food have been shown to create health problems for farmers. Organic therefore gives a safer alternative to those who wish to prevent exposure to harmful chemicals.

Why We Grow Organic

Regardless of what some people may say about organic food, we grow our food this way because we believe in what it represents. We believe that people should know what goes into their food and feel safe eating it. We like to support the idea of family owned business instead large corporations that are more concerned with profits than quality products. We also believe in preserving the environment by farming in a more natural way and conserving resources by doing things like composting. Farming organically is our way of contributing to a better way of life
